Reading the graphics line correctly

The spec says "Metal-capable graphics card (Intel-based Mac computers only)." The parenthetical is doing important work: Apple Silicon Macs have Metal graphics natively — the explicit call-out is only for Intel Macs, where you need to confirm your specific GPU model supports Metal. Why the language difference matters: when Apple says "required," the feature will not run without it. When Apple says "recommended," the feature may run on Intel but with reduced performance or quality. Knowing which is which helps you plan hardware decisions accurately.

The disk figure is misleading

The 7.2 GB requirement is the install size for the application — not the space you need to work. Media files are separate and typically dwarf the application size many times over. Think of 7.2 GB as the minimum to install the app, and plan media storage independently.

Storage planning: practitioners commonly recommend 2–4 TB of storage space for a working video editing setup. Use an NVMe SSD for the operating system, application, and active project cache. Media archives can live on external drives or NAS. The install size tells you nothing about how much space your actual work will require.

Several pages currently ranking for this query serve outdated specs: macOS 14.6 (superseded by 15.6) and a 1 GB VRAM recommendation from the Final Cut Pro X era that does not appear on Apple's current spec pages.
